The Client’s Needs

The first step in our custom ramp solution process is determining the client’s specific needs, so that we can create a unique solution for providing more productive and efficient operations. In the case of our latest custom ramp project, one of our clients approached us about creating a solution that would provide them with more space when loading and unloading boxcars, as their current loading ramp did not have enough room. The client also found that they were having issues with getting their loading ramp flush against railcars that had objects protruding from them.

The Finished Loading Ramp

In order to create more room for the forklift to turn in and out of boxcars, during the loading and unloading process, our custom ramp design team created an angled extension piece to help level off the area. This, in turn, created more than enough room for the forklift to be able to properly maneuver. Next, our team tackled the issue of ensuring that the new loading ramp would remain flush against the boxcar. To solve this problem, we set the landing gear legs and mobile legs on the loading ramp back 42″. Doing so created more space underneath the custom loading ramp, preventing anything protruding from the railcars from getting in the way and slowing down loading and unloading process.
