Forklift Safety

Forklift Safety Loading DocksPart of our goal here at Dura-Ramp is to produce loading ramps that will increase safety for everyone using them. But just because you are using a Dura-Ramp doesn’t mean you are fool proof. When using a forklift on one of our loading ramps you need to remember your training and safety at all times or you could put yourself and others in dangerous situations.

Watch Your Speed

When driving around your warehouse and up the forklift ramp have a light foot. If you are going too fast or steering too quickly you can risk tipping over the load and damaging your cargo. Additionally, the faster you are going, the less time you have to respond. If you have others working in the warehouse you could seriously injure them by colliding with your coworkers or other forklifts.

Don’t Overload

Know the limit of your forklift and keep your loads within those restrictions. There is a reason your forklift was given a weight capacity. Not only could you damage the forklift (an expensive fix), but also you could break your cargo and injure yourself if the forklift tips – this goes for stacking your cargo as well. Stacking your items too high can lead to items falling off as you’re driving around the smallest corners, or falling backwards as you ascend or descend the loading ramp.

Wear Your Protective Gear

One method to keep yourself and your coworkers safe is to wear protective gear. This includes a wearing a helmet, high visibility vest, and steel toe boots. This way you will be seen by your coworkers if they are navigating the warehouse with a forklift and also protect you from falling cargo.

We want to make sure that our clients and everyone using our ramps is safe. With our high traction grate decking, safety chain, forklift entry dock place and welded steel design we are confident every ramp we make is built with safety in mind.
