Ramp Offloading Tips

Many of our customers have asked us how they should offload their Dura-Ramp once it has been delivered to them. This can seem like a daunting task because of the dimensions and weight of the ramp components. However, if you are properly prepared for the delivery, your ramp will be ready to go soon after it’s arrived.

Prepare Your Yard

Your ramp will most likely be delivered on a flat deck in two separate pieces (one on top of the other). Ensure that you have adequate space prepared in your yard for the truck to back the ramp into. You will also need forklifts to position on both sides of the flat deck, so make sure there are no obstructions and a sufficient amount of space for the forklifts to maneuver.

Have Your Forklift(s) Ready

To offload your Dura-Ramp from the truck you will need either one large capacity forklift or two standard warehouse forklifts. Because of the weight and size, one small forklift will not be able to hold the ramp parts by itself. Two smaller forklifts will be required on each side to lift the ramp parts to lift and position. If you have a large capacity forklift you will be able to pick up both pieces and back away from the truck safely.

Plan Your Route

Plan ahead of time where you would like your ramp to be assembled. Clear a path to this location so the forklifts will not be any safety issues navigating to the location. If you are using two small warehouse forklifts, once the ramp pieces have been raised, the truck will drive forward so the forklifts can continue to their destination. Once you reach the location, place wooden blocks to lay the ramp down on. Then you can take the platform off the top and begin setting up your ramp. If you are using a large capacity forklift you can pick up both pieces off the truck and move them to their location. For a demonstration of both of these tasks, view our offloading videos below.
